Under the direction of the Director, Applications, the Clinical Applications Manager is responsible for the implementation and ongoing support of AltaMed’s   clinical applications, including the electronic medical record (EMR), and related systems and applications necessary for business operations. Recruits, trains, motivates, evaluates and retains staff. Coaches and mentors staff in the execution of their responsibilities with the goal of creating a highly functioning team of experts. Creates and maintains a teamwork environment conducive to productive output, successful staff advancement and a rewarding work experience. Conducts comprehensive project and support work status reviews. Communicates appropriate project and support status and outcomes to leadership. Enforces quality standards to assure project and support work meets organizational and leadership expectations and goals. Recommends and implements process improvements to increase efficiency and quality. Supports capacity planning activities, including quality control of data used, working with other departments and staff. Works to develop, review, revise and enforce departmental policies, procedures and processes to advance the mission of IS and AltaMed Health Services Corp. Responsible for managing vendor relationships and conformance to contracts.




  1. Responsible for managing the day to day applications support activities, including application availability, upgrades and maintenance, and user support by providing supervision, direction, support and timely performance evaluations to the Clinical Applications staff.
  2. Ensures that all system changes and development conform to the established AltaMed development and change management models.
  3. Ensures that all system changes are documented and communicated to the appropriate users and stakeholders.
  4. Manages and monitors work assignments for the clinical applications team.
  5. Manage template import/export process.
  6. Leads the EHR template customization effort and manages template development performed by external vendors.
  7. Leads unit testing on selected new development and functionality changes to the templates.
  8. Provides project management/oversight to new site EHR implementations and major upgrades.
  9. Actively participate in NextGen user community and identify/implement best practices from like organizations.
  10. Evaluate reported system problems and resolve or coordinate resolution with vendor if necessary.
  11. Monitor open items being worked by vendors/external entities, manage commitments and escalate as necessary.
  12. Manage support of clinical applications; analyze software and hardware requirements and user needs.
  13. Consult with and advise management personnel regarding information management including system and application capabilities
  14. Determines and recommends department budgets and expenditures.
  15. Create and/or validate SQL database queries and fixes to database integrity issues.
  16. Assist with clinical application(s) enhancements and/or go-live coordination.
  17. Coordinate the purchasing, maintenance, repair and installation of computer hardware and software licenses; assure system security.
  18. Perform all other related duties as assigned.


  1. Bachelor’s or equivalent required.
  2. 3-5 years’ experience with healthcare information systems with focus on electronic health record systems or equivalent clinical experience.
  3. 2-4 years’ experience in a supervisory/leadership role
  4. Clinical background preferred but not required.
  5. Strong technical and healthcare application background/experience.
