Overview

Under the direct care supervision of a Physician, Registered Nurse or LVN Supervisor, the Regional Float Medical assistant provides patient care support to various ambulatory clinics within their regulatory scope of practice.

 

As a regional float, assignment locations will vary depending on business need and may be within either Los Angeles or Orange County. Assignments will vary in length and can range from a few weeks to a few months depending on the reason for supplemental coverage.

Responsibilities

  1. Greets patients and escorts them from the waiting room to exam rooms; prepares patients for exam or treatment.
  2. Obtains and documents patient vital signs in EMR, including temperature, blood pressure, height/weight, respiration and pulse.
  3. The Regional Float Medical Assistant may administer intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal injections and may perform skin tests, administer oral medication, venipunctures and capillary skin punctures for blood specimens.
  4. Assists physician with procedures and treatments and/or carries out medical provider’s orders by performing requested tests.
  5. Ability to perform accurate quality control and patient sample testing for waived tests.
  6. Obtains medication/vaccine verification from LVN’s.
  7. Performs Medication reconciliation.
  8. Instructs patient and/or family on follow-up care.
  9. Follow standard infection control procedures
  10. Provides excellent customer service at all times, to internal and external customers.
  11. Determines specific needs for each clinic and prepares area with appropriate supplies, equipment, etc.
  12. Communicates, coordinates and consults with members of the health team while performing nursing responsibilities.
  13. Participates in staff meetings and ongoing clinical skills competency testing.
  14. Provides staff coverage in clinics as assigned.
  15. Assists any and all internal or external consumers with any problems they may have in a pleasant and cooperative manner.
  16. Does not make independent medical or healthcare decisions.
  17. Assists with special projects as assigned.
  18. Assist with referrals as needed.
  19. Responsible for assisting with the completion of all calibration of medical equipment and ensuring logs are up to date.
  20. Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of all back office policies and procedures.
  21. Handles client health information at a minimum necessary to document data, access, and carry out responsibilities of the position.
  22. Participates in activities which promote own professional growth and development.
  23. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
  2. Medical Assistant diploma, required.
  3. Current CPR/First Aid training.
  4. A minimum of 3 years’ back office experience, preferred.
  5. Experience in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Woman’s Health and Urgent Care, Preferred.
  6. Bilingual: (English/Spanish) preferred.
