  • Overview

    The Site Dental Director has overall responsibility for the clinical patient care.  He/she addresses administrative issues at the site in collaboration with the Clinic Administrator. The Site Dental Director actively participates in the Interdisciplinary Team and directs the dental care decisions.


    1. Supervise all dental services offered by the program and assists with dental care.   Function as the supervisor for the dental staff at site, exercising full supervisory responsibilities included but not limited to hiring, firing, directing work and establishing schedules and performance expectations.

    2. Review Full time/Per Diem Dentist and Hygienist performance on all indicators for quality, service, people, finance and community on a monthly basis.

    3. Orient all new Dentists and Hygienist, and oversee coverage and call schedule for the clinic.

    4. Oversees the management of participant’s dental situations, and oversees the participant’s use of dental specialists.

    5. Provide active leadership in the Dental Quality Assurance/Improvement Committee (DQAIC), and AltaMed Health Services Peer Review activities to monitor quality of care indicators and assist in the identification and implementation of appropriate interventions.

    6. Consistently, support the Site Dentists with the tools to be successful to perform their daily duties at the clinic.

    7. Responsible for site coverage in clinic emergencies, and assists in the development of site clinical policies and protocols.

    8. Work with Site Dentist to develop coordinated process flows.

    9. Conduct weekly chart audits and address any concern in a timely manner.  Work through DQAIC to audit process and outcomes.

    10. Work to develop, implement and monitor clinical guidelines that are appropriate for the assigned population.

    11. Assist in the development and implementation of the Corrective Action Plans for periodic audits by outside agencies.

    12. Performs other related duties as assigned.


    1. Dentist with an active unrestricted CA license to practice dentistry by the Dental Board of California and DEA License required.

    2. Prior experience in a leadership or management role strongly preferred.

    3. Previous experience with computer-based systems required; Electronic Dental records experience preferred.

    4. Education, training and experience necessary to meet the underwritten requirements for inclusion under AltaMed’s malpractice insurance coverage.

    5. Current CPR and First Aid certificate required.

    6. Bilingual: English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese preferred depending on location.
