  • Overview

    The Peer Educator provides reproductive health education and pregnancy counseling to teens (12-19 years old) both in clinic and classroom setting while promoting the mission of AltaMed Health Services. Refers teens to AltaMed’s Health Center for Family Planning services and other Health services.


    1. Implement Health Education objectives and strategies within the clinic and throughout the community.
    2. Provide individual Health Education to patients, clients and students.
    3. Provide outreach services; such as health fairs and school events.
    4. Connect teens to Family planning services.
    5. Provide prevention education in schools, shelters and other community based organizations.
    6. Maintain compliance to Title X Health Education protocols.
    7. Provide patient population with necessary referral sources.
    8. Work with Program Manager to develop culturally competent and relevant education materials and projects.
    9. Attend and participate in community meetings and collaborative efforts addressing teen health related issues.
    10. Attend training and conferences as scheduled and coordinated by the California Family Health Council (CFHC).
    11. In collaboration with Program Manager collect date relevant to the evaluation of health education and grant specific audiences.
    12. Work in collaboration with Program Manager recruiting participants for program related activities.
    13. Identify new contacts for outreach purposes.
    14. Implement other job-related duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
    15. Promote Family Planning linkages to AltaMed Health Services for Reproductive Health Services.


    1. A minimum of one year of experience working with adolescents preferred.
    2. Experience working with community service organization and /or school clubs preferred.
    3. Previous related experience in the Health Care field preferred.
    4. Public speaking preferred.
