  • Overview

    Under the direction of the Director, the Medical Interpreter/Translator provides accurate interpretation and translation of critical medical information as it pertains to regulatory measures to therefore adhere to language access for AltaMed patients with limited English proficiency.



    1. Reviews and or develops information requested by health plans to remain compliant with language access laws in healthcare management.
    2. Create and manage repository of translated clinical and non-clinical templates for patient notices for regulatory and compliance measures.
    3. Reviews quality of notices and related patient-communications for health literacy and understandability in patients’ native language.
    4. Participate as a neutral party in the role as conduit of information (oral and written) that must flow between AltaMed staff stakeholders targeting the patient.
    5. Works with stakeholders to ensure that information pertaining to the patient's outpatient services, hospitalization, (i.e. advance directives, consents from treatment, diagnosis and prognosis, treatment plan, follow-up appointments and Healthcare services) are adhering to compliance measure and are accurately communicated to patients. .
    6. Review and evaluate interpreter and translation services, to convey the exact message.
    7. Work with Director and stakeholders to maintain requests for interpretation and translation services for reporting and compliance purposes.
    8. Maintain accurate and timely documentation within program database.
    9. Promote customer satisfaction related to AltaMed services; notify Supervisor of any issues that may be problematic for patients or AltaMed staff.
    10. Maintain confidentiality on all matters related to patient care and issues among limited English proficient families.
    11. Perform various administrative duties as assigned.
    12. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.



    1. B.S.,degree in public health, health administration, business administration, public administration or relatedfield required.
    2. A minimum of five (5) years of experience with regulations in interpretation and translations in healthcare settings
    3. Certification to serve as Medical Interpreter/Translator
