  • Overview

    Assist Obesity Program Coordinator with the recruitment, eligibility screening, intake, and coordination of patients for the AltaMed Obesity Program, i.e. Pediatrics Obesity Program, and Women’s Obesity Prevention and Reduction Programs. The obesity Program Aide will provide both administrative and clinical support to any/all of the Obesity Programs. Assist in the provision of direct patient care by performing Program specific patient care procedures. The Program Aide will utilize Medical Assistant skills and may be asked to perform the following: administer intramuscular, subcutaneous or intra-dermas injections and may perform skin tests, administer oral medication, venipunctures and skin punctures for blood specimens.


    1. Performs and documents accurate preliminary data collection on each patient/participant to be seen.

    2. Documents pertinent participant information, procedures performed, medications and injections administered patient responses, and reports findings to the medical providers. 

    3. Functions as a participant advocate ensuring that participant concerns are resolved or addressed expeditiously.

    4. Handles participant’s health information at a minimum necessary to document data, maintain participant privacy and confidentiality.

    5. Performs and documents accurate preliminary data collection on each participant to be seen, including but not limited to: Temperature, weight & height, pain scale, pulse, complaints/symptoms, blood pressure, respiration, allergies, immunologic status, medications, viral loan and CD-4 count.

    6. Perform routine clerical functions including but not limited to:  schedule routine/follow-up appointments, chart management, take/make and route phone calls timely and efficiently, conduct failed/broken appointment follow-up, assist participants with referral documents and appointments.

    7. Utilizes the Care In Action Model of teamwork in preparing for participants arrival and escort to participant locations as appropriate.

    8. Applies knowledge of MA skills and exercised judgment in giving patient care as evidenced by awareness of participants needs, following policies and procedures, apply knowledge to new situations and adapt to change, reassures participants, demonstrates personal interest in psycho-social needs, respects religious and individual differences.

    9. Knowledgeable in the various AltaMed operations and services..

    10. Process patients efficiently, while effectively creating, navigating though, and documenting in the patient electronic medical health record.

    11. Assists with ensuring adequate inventory of necessary supplies and ensuring maintenance of all logs.

    12. Performs other related duties as assigned.


    1. High School diploma or equivalent work experience required.

    2. Basic education, training and certification in Medical Assistant from an accredited school also required.
