  • Overview

    The HIV Testing Supervisor ensures that: (1) each HIV Prevention Specialist provides quality and comprehensive client-centered HIV Testing and Risk Reduction; (2) each HIV Prevention Specialist is capable of effectively linking positive clients to medical services. Core responsibilities include compliance with contract requirements and best standard practices for HIV Testing , supervision of all testing contracts, follows protocol and procedures, maintenance of Mobile Testing Unit, and implementation of quality management (QM) plans for testing contracts. The HIV Testing Supervisor will also provide on-going guidance and support to HIV Testing Counselors/Prevention Specialists on how to address and empower client efforts to reduce their risk of HIV infection and transmission.



    1. Supervises, coaches and mentors HIV Testing Counselors and HIV Prevention Specialists.
    2. Performs employee evaluations in a timely manner.
    3. Directly supervises implementation of all testing contracts. Ensures that every HIV Prevention Specialist conducts testing services in compliance with contract requirements and best standard practices. This includes identifying staff training needs and scheduling appropriate training through the Office of AIDS and Programs Policy (OAPP), internally at AltaMed, and other agencies, as needed.
    4. Monitors implementation of QM plans for each testing contract. Establishes and develops protocol as needed to facilitate data entry and production of monthly reports using HIRS data base.
    5. Participates in training by the OAPP on HIRS system as needed.
    6. Follows up with individual staff when data collection forms are incomplete or not filled out correctly. Informs Health Education & Promotion Manager if any staff member continuously turns in incomplete or incorrect forms (more than 2 times).
    7. Assists Health Education & Promotion Manager in completion of program reports by generating invoices and data summaries from HIRS.
    8. Troubleshoots directly with technical support for HIRS for any data entry problems; acts as primary contact person for HIRS-related questions from OAPP when Health Education & Promotion Manager is not available.
    9. Ensures adequate level of program supplies are on stock. Manages weekly inventory of client testing charts, safer sex kits, client incentives, and promotional materials including program brochures.
    10. Maintains filing system for all program reports, employee files, and program materials.
    11. Performs other related duties as assigned.



    1. Bachelor of Arts Degree in a field applicable to HIV prevention; or equivalent work experience working in an HIV prevention program or an HIV/AIDS related human services field such as social work, psychology, nursing, counseling or health education.
    2. A minimum of one year in similar level work required including one year experience in a supervisory role. .
    3. Bilingual: English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese depending on location preferred.
