  • Overview

    The PrEP Navigator provides quality and comprehensive HIV/STI Health Education, HIV counseling and testing, and facilitates HIV Prevention and PrEP/PEP Navigation Services to clients at high risk for infection or transmission of HIV. Core responsibilities include refer clients for ACA enrollment, navigate clients onto PrEP/PEP services, schedule medical appointment for PrEP/PEP, and assist with Medication Assistance Programs. Conducts program recruitment for PrEP, client intake and assessment, facilitation/Mentoring, HIV counseling and testing, and coordination of referral services into other appropriate programs for PrEP clients. Monitor, evaluate and report on grants. Represents AltaMed by serving as a liaison between AltaMed and other organizations and work groups. All program activities will address and empower each client’s efforts to reduce the risk of HIV infection or transmission and assist in community building in AltaMed’s service area.



    1. Provide excellent customer service at all times, to internal and external customers.
    2. Participates in comprehensive training sessions (including monthly clinical supervision) for prevention.
    3. Provide STD/HIV testing on the Mobile unit

    4. Coordinates AltaMed’s HIV Prevention activities and events, as directed by the Program Supervisor/Manager.
    5. Coordinate HIV Prevention schedules and events in conjunction with the HIV Supervisor/ Manager.
    6. Represents AltaMed HIV Services at community meetings and coalitions.
    7. Assists in the development of HIV Prevention presentations for internal and external meetings, conferences, and trainings.
    8. Review HIV health education materials for content, layout, cultural-sensitivity and linguistic appropriateness
    9. Clearly and accurately completes required documentation for HIV Prevention programs including HIV/STI Counseling and Testing Forms and consents, client satisfaction surveys, Program screeners, sign-in sheets, incentive logs, program forms, etc.
    10. Interface and collaborate with diverse group of health care professionals and outside community resources to coordinate referrals/linkages and patient care.
    11. Participates in regular internal audits to ensure that program documentation, charts and reports are accurate and complete on a monthly basis.
    12. Promotes PrEP/PEP Prevention services through in-service presentations to AltaMed staff and other agencies.
    13. Participates in program, departmental and division staff meetings.
    14. Ensures the maintenance of accurate activity logs and program reports and monitors and submits timely progress reports in addition to monitoring the grant’s HIV quality measures.
    15. Performs other related duties as assigned.


    1. High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
    2. Preferred Bachelor of Arts Degree and preferably experience in a non-profit setting. Otherwise, a minimum of one year’s experience working in an HIV
    3. Must successfully pass the counseling and testing certification provided by the Los Angeles County Division of HIV and STD Programs within 3 months of employment.
    4. Trained in Motivational Interviewing and demonstrates a capacity to deliver client-centered counseling.
    5. Demonstrated skills in Presentation and Group Facilitation.
    6. Applicant must demonstrate skill (through education or experience) in counseling, crisis intervention, critical reading and writing as it relates to implementation of program goals and objectives.
