    Under the direction of the Director, Community Affairs, the Specialist, Community Affairs will be responsible for maintaining and cultivating relationships with local private, civic, and public organization to increase brand awareness. Functions as a representative of AltaMed in the community and coordinates community affairs and outreach, grassroots activities, educational forums, town hall meetings, and health fairs. Serves as knowledgeable resource about AltaMed’s programs and services in the community. Provides support to increase awareness of AltaMed and its priorities among community, public, and non-traditional community by collaborating with community partners such as religious groups, schools and academic institutions, and other civic organizations. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders across AltaMed to connect services to the community, bridge the gap between community needs and health resources, and drive brand activation initiatives.


    The Specialist, Community Affairs will be responsible for a variety of work streams critical to the success of the enterprise brand activation strategy, including:

    1. Serve as AltaMed’s representative for community organizations and the community in general.
    2. Plan, coordinate and evaluate community affairs projects, activities and events.
    3. Actively participate as a representative of AltaMed in assigned community meetings, committees, and coalitions to develop and enhance community partnerships.
    4. Cultivate and maintain relationships with relevant community groups and partner organizations to maximize AltaMed’s exposure to target populations.
    5. Communicate and track community developments and issues to director.
    6. Continually identify new opportunities for collaboration with partners and foster continuous communication.
    7. Clearly communicate community developments and issues to external stakeholders as appropriate.
    8. Identify, track, collect and report on appropriate data to support AltaMed community affairs.
    9. Conduct presentations for community-based organizations to increase awareness of AltaMed’s programs and services.
    10. Work in collaboration with various departments as well as clinic administrators and senior staff to increase partnerships.
    11. Represent AltaMed in community affairs meetings and conversations both internally and externally.
    12. Attend relevant events to promote and represent AltaMed such as health, cultural and community fairs, local parades, events for small and mid-size businesses, and various community activities and promotions appropriate to local areas.
    13. Perform other related duties as assigned.



    1. BA/BS Degree in Marketing, Communications, Social or Human Sciences, or related area.
    2. A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in community affairs or community relations programs. Health care experience preferred.
    3. Demonstrates a strong understanding of multicultural target audiences within the geographic area served
    4. Excellent writing and presentation skills required
    5. Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to cultivate and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    6. Knowledge of cultural and linguistic sensitivities
    7. Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) and experience working with the Latino community are a plus.
