    AltaMed seeks an experienced Residency Program Director to build and oversee AltaMed’s Family Medicine Residency Program. The Program Director will have the authority and accountability for the administration, management, organization, evaluation, teaching, resident supervision, precepting and, scholarship, while providing and ensuring quality clinical care and teaching (thirty percent clinical and seventy percent administrative). Under the direction of the DIO and Medical Director of Medical Education, the role will support the development of a high quality Family Medicine Residency program, in accordance with the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the Sponsoring Institution’s policies. The Residency Program Director will develop, disseminate and implement policies, procedures, standards, reporting requirements, deadlines and support continuous quality program improvement. The role will assure the compliance of multiple fiscal line-item expenditures and assist with budget development, as well as any other regulatory or overseeing agency requirements.     1. Leads development of and compliance with resident training policies and procedures in accordance with ACGME requirements.
    2. Collaborates with leadership to develop and manage capital and operating budget, including availability of adequate resources and necessary professional, technical and clerical personnel, for the effective administration of the program.
    3. Support development and management of partnerships with academic and hospital partners.
    4. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with residency programs, student and professional health associations, medical schools, community-based organizations to expand health professions/ clinical pipeline programs for residents.
    5. Participates in AltaMed strategic planning efforts that support the increase of bi-lingual, culturally competent providers to AltaMed
    6. Responsible for developing and overseeing learning environment and ACGME competency-based curriculum for residents, staff, and faculty on didactic and clinical education.
    7. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state regulations, laws and policies and makes program modifications as needed.
    8. Review the effectiveness of the teaching, ensure development of faculty as teachers, plan and organize faculty development and other training sessions.
    9. Supervises, coach, and develop all AltaMed Residency program team members, faculty and staff.
    10. Supervises program planning and performance evaluation.
    11. Approve and evaluate Residency program faculty, staff and preceptors.
    12. Review procedures and coordinate activities between Preceptors, Residents, Nursing staff, Support staff and Administration. This includes efficient and cost-effective use of staffing and other resources, working in cooperation with the Chief Nursing Executive and administrative support departments.
    13. Ensure compliance with grievance and due process procedures as set forth in the Institutional Requirements and implemented by sponsoring institution.
    14. Resolve conflicts and complaints among Residency program staff and participants. Establish and maintain effective communications between all parties involved in the Residency program.
    15. Ensure appropriate patient mix and patient load for residents, including monitoring of resident schedules and charts. Review and approve the appropriateness of new patients to the Residency Center.
    16. Maximize productivity of preceptors and residents by maximizing their efficiency.
    17. Effectively monitor and make decisions regarding the daily clinical activities of the residents by approving requests for leave, coordinating care of resident's patients in the absence of a resident, perform formal evaluations of residents, coordinate rotations, recruiting and interviewing activities.
    18. Lead meetings with clinical staff relating to residency program management, education and other clinical issues.
    19. Produce reports and keep appropriate statistics regarding number of patients seen, education/training tracking, etc. that meet ACGME standards, making adjustments as necessary.
    20. Oversee the overall teaching and training of Resident staff, including planning residents' procedural training, monitoring training goals and keep, and proving a superb learning and working environment.
    21. Other duties as assigned


    1. Physician with current American Board of Family Medicine certification and an active unrestrictive CA license to practice Family Medicine by the Medical Board of California.
    2. A minimum of five years of clinical experience in Family Medicine required, preferably in a Federally Qualified Community Health (FQHC).
    3. At least two years of documented educational Residency Program experience in an ACGME-or AOA accredited Family Medicine residency program required.
    4. At least three years of management experience required. Experience in a Teaching or Community-Based Program preferred.
    5. Experience in community engagement preferred.
    6. Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university program in Public Health, Business or Health Care Administration, or other related fields preferred.
    7. Prior budget management experience preferred.
    8. Prior development of university partnerships and program funding sources (grants) preferred.
