    The Civic Engagement Specialist will work closely with the Civic Engagement and Government Relations teams in support of the department’s goals and objectives to promote civic participation. This position requires a deep understanding of the connection between civic engagement and its impact on the social determinants of health. The Civic Engagement Specialist will provide ongoing support to promote optimal communication among civic engagement team, supporting departments, campaign consultants, temporary campaign staff and volunteers to ensure optimal workflow. The Specialist will also ensure the efficient daily functioning and productivity of the campaign office. The Specialist will be the key liaison between the Civic Engagement team and external campaign consultants and campaign staff. Provides general administrative support including scheduling staff meetings, taking meeting minutes, and preparing meeting materials. Will assist AVP in creating and managing campaign budgets. Will also assist with training of phone bankers, canvassers and volunteers.


    1. Ensure a successful campaign start-up by working closely with staff to prepare program and content, manage campaign staff, volunteer recruitment, administrative and logistical support, and monitoring campaign goals.
    2. The Civic Engagement Specialist will ensure successful staff training for voter contact tracking purposes. Working in alignment with the campaign leadership, external campaign consultants and the agreed upon campaign strategy, s/he will ensure the successful training and management of volunteers and staff.
    3. Responsible for implementing the predetermined system for effective voter contact.
    4. Will lead efforts to manage phone banks, door-to-door canvassing, and other direct voter contact efforts on behalf of the team.
    5. Will drive the campaign's voter contact tracking and reporting system to measure and report voter contact results to campaign leaders accurately and promptly throughout the campaign.
    6. Create and maintain a winning campaign environment by making it a top priority, ensuring a positive, upbeat, and focused campaign environment. S/he will strive to be a role model for others to follow.
    7. Manage the day to day operations by creating weekly and monthly plans for staff and office.
    8. Submit timesheets for all staff, send human resource and tax documents, create long-term and short-term site schedules, and attend meetings with key stakeholders as necessary.
    9. Additional duties as assigned.


    1. Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience related to Civic Engagement, Community Outreach, Education and Planning.
    2. 3-5 years of experience, or 3-4 election cycles in political and issue advocacy campaigns.
    3. Experience managing campaign staff or served as a campaign staff on one or more political campaigns.
    4. Proven experience in managing internal processes, project teams and budgets.
    5. Exceptional ability to analyze information, formulate plans, adopt plans and tactics as conditions change, and convey them in writing and through oral presentations.
    6. Flexibility as changing campaign circumstances may require.
    7. Track record of cultivating high-level relationships with civic leaders and community based organizations, with a well-established professional network in non-profit advocacy.
    8. Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with database program development and administration.
    9. Ability to represent the campaign with maturity, judgment, and professionalism.
    10. Bi-lingual English and Spanish.
