  • Overview

    The Supervisor, HIV Health Education ensures that each HIV Prevention Specialist provides quality and comprehensive client-centered individual and group-level health education/risk reduction (HERR) services including Prevention Case Management (PCM); as well as each HIV Prevention Specialist is capable of effectively linking clients from individual and group-level interventions to testing and health services. Core responsibilities include compliance with contract requirements and best standard practices for individual and group-level interventions, clinical supervision of PCM, individual and group training on testing protocol and procedures, maintenance of referral networks, and implementation of quality management (QM) plans. The HIV Health Education Coordinator will also provide on-going guidance to HIV Prevention Specialists on how to address and empower client efforts to reduce their risk of HIV infection and transmission.


    1. Adhere to strict confidentiality protocol to ensure privacy of all client information. Make sure all documentation with personal health information is kept out of public view and securely filed in a locked cabinet or room, out of reach unauthorized personnel. (Any client information discussed by employees must be done for the client’s benefit and in a confidential, enclosed space, preferably an office, where others will not be able to overhear personal health information. The Supervisor HIV Health Education must report any violations to HIV Prevention Manager).

    2. Directly supervises implementation of contracts for all individual and group-level health education/risk reduction (HERR) contracts including PCM. Ensures that every HIV Prevention Specialist conducts HERR and PCM services in compliance with contract requirements and best standard practices: including identifying staff training needs and scheduling appropriate training through OAPP, CDC, as needed.

    3. Monitors implementation of QM plans for each HERR and PCM contract. Establishes and develops protocol as needed to facilitate data entry and production of monthly QM reports using various databases: HIRS, PEMS, MegaWest, AMBUCOL.

    4. Participates in training by the Office of AIDS and Programs Policy (OAPP) on HIRS system as needed; participates in training by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on PEMS system as needed. HIRS and PEMS are both web-based data entry systems.

    5. Supervises staff and follows up with individually when data collection forms are incomplete or not filled out correctly. Informs HIV Prevention Manager if any staff member continuously turns in incomplete or incorrect forms (more than twice).

    6. Assists HIV Prevention Manager in completion of program reports by generating invoices and data summaries from HIRS, PEMS, or MegaWest. Responsible for completing sections of the program reports related to HERR and PCM, including narratives.

    7. Troubleshoots directly with technical support for MegaWest, HIRS, and PEMS for any data entry problems; acts as primary contact person for HIRS-related questions from OAPP when HIV Prevention Manager is not available.

    8. Ensures adequate level of program supplies for HERR and PCM. Manages weekly inventory of client charts, safer sex kits, client incentives, and promotional materials including program brochures used for HERR and PCM.

    9. Maintains filing system for all program reports, employee files, and program materials.

    10. Coordinate activities with the Project Futuro Team.


    1. Bachelor of Arts Degree in a field applicable to HIV prevention or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of one year extensive experience working in an HIV prevention program or an HIV/AIDS related human services field such as social work, psychology, nursing, counseling or health education.

    2. A minimum of one year prior supervisory experience in an HIV environment is also required.

    3. Applicant must demonstrate skill (through education or experience) in critical reading and writing as it relates to implementation of contract requirements, best standard practices and program development.
