The AltaMed Institute for Health Equity (AIHE) was established in 2017 to advance health equity by identifying and removing barriers to optimal health. Reporting to the AIHE Director of Research, the Senior Research Data Advisor (SRDA) is broadly responsible for establishing and maintaining a research data infrastructure at AIHE that facilitates data access, management, and analysis for research and other AIHE purposes in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and agreements. The SRDA serves as the data manager overseeing day-to-day data management activities for AIHE research projects, including projects utilizing internal AltaMed clinic data, data from projects involving primary data collection, publically available and restricted external secondary data sources, and data from partners across the region and country, and any other data sources. The SRDA also facilitates de-identified data access, linkages, and sharing with regional and national partners for purposes ranging from initial cohort discovery to data analysis for funded projects, including the use of appropriate data sharing software, the development of appropriate data use agreements, and the development of appropriate trainings. The SRDA also serves as the point of contact for AIHE researchers and staff with other AltaMed departments responsible for data management, with the dual aims of facilitating access to existing data and facilitating the development of this data such that quality, ease of access, and secure management is increased over time. The SRDA may also serve as a research programmer on select projects, though this is not required. The SRDA should be skilled at working with interdisciplinary teams, data management in both clinical and research contexts, and statistical programming, and should have knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to managing data for clinical and research purposes.

The Research Scientist (RS) is a research position within the AltaMed Institute of Health Equity, reporting to the Medical Director of the Institute. The position has both internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from research team leadership to strategic partnerships and outreach to thought leadership with partnering academic institutions. With guidance from the Director(s), the RS will serve as Principal or Co-Investigator to support research initiatives that are aligned with AltaMed’s strategic goals, and increase the Institute's impact and visibility through an integrated approach to research, policy and practice. The RS may have direct reports and supervise others. The RS will support the Director, Vice President of Institute Operations, Director of Grants Management to help them achieve the Institute’s research goals. The RS will engage both individually and collectively as a collaborative partner with the grants team and other research associates in research design and execution, publish in peer-reviewed and state-of-the-field publications, attend and present at conferences, and cultivate relationships with peer research institutions. The RS will identify and implement research that is aligned with the Institute’s strategic research and learning health system objectives. This position requires expertise and experience in primary care, electronic health record data systems, research development and evaluation of complex projects. The RS will receive extensive training in electronic health record systems and play key role(s) in the development of AltaMed’s electronic health record data systems to support the Institute’s health equity goals. The RS must possess an ability to think strategically, delegate responsibility, listen carefully, build consensus, encourage the integration of others’ ideas and proposals, communicate and advocate effectively in a complex organization, work well in multidisciplinary teams and share credit for success.
